Christian Arts Festival
This year a small contingency went from our benefice to the Christian Arts Festival of 'Greenbelt.' The theme for the year was 'Heaven in the Ordinary' which ran alongside the call for Christians to take responsibility for our part in care of Gods' creation. This gathered in such issues as Global warming, fair trade and justice for the poor. There was a huge range of Arts to choose from, Poetry, music - classical and contemporary, theatre, Circus, and Comedy. This heady mix was balanced by a daily programme of lectures or talks on such diverse topics as Finding God in community.

Now we are 60, the New Testament clobber texts with such names as John Bell, Mike Yaconelli and Mona Siddiqui, the latter a renowned Islamic theologian presenting 'does theology matter for peaceful coexistence?' All these talks are included in the ticket price and open to all.

For future interest this festival is held annually at the Cheltenham racecourse over the August Bank holiday weekend. Individuals and families can choose to camp (included in the price of a weekend ticket) or pay extra to use the local college campus or bread and breakfast.

It is deliberately designed to offer an inclusive welcome to young and old, with such facilities as a childrens' festival run by qualified children's workers, plus specific programmes for the 11 - 14 year olds and the 15 - 18 year olds.

There is only one way to find out if this is for you - TO GO for the whole weekend.
Over the years we have introduced the festival to people as varied in ages from 3 weeks old to over 65's and all have found a place that reveals much of the grace of God and a diversity of Christian expression.

One year the theme was 'Heaven on earth' - for me this remains its overall strength. Green belt offers a little glimpse of Heaven on earth.

Why not put it in the diary for next year?
