BOLDRE PCC

The PCC meeting on 9th January at St Nicholas Chapel opened with the familiar reading from St John's Gospel 'In the beginning was the Word…' followed by a prayer.

As the meeting was held so early in the new year the Christmas services at St John the Baptist were very much in focus and all
agreed that these had been successful, with attendance in the region of 550 people over the Crib, the Midnight and Christmas
morning services.

The children's Christmas party was enjoyed by twenty-two children and their mothers and fifty Boldre pensioners enjoyed a tea-party at Hordle/Walhampton School in December.

The Emmaus six week course which was to begin after Easter has been postponed until the autumn to allow time to be given to preparations for the Festival in June.

Work on new lighting in the church will be delayed until the necessary Faculty is obtained, but work will go ahead on repositioning the flag pole with a new base to make it more secure.

The holly tree by the front entrance to St John's so badly damaged by the lead thieves, is to be pruned to give it a better shape.

It is the time of year when nominations of those willing to join the PCC are being sought and hopefully names will be coming forward for election to Church Warden and to the PCC  Committee at the Annual Meeting on Monday 16th April.  If you wish to volunteer for either and so join an enthusiastic bunch of people please speak to any member of the PCC.

Service of an outstanding kind was acknowledged when we learned that Tony Corbin, the Verger, is to retire after 53 years service to the Church.  Expressions of appreciation will be made elsewhere but for the moment suffice it to say that his reassuring presence, genial manner and helpfulness will be sorely missed.

The next meeting of the PCC will be on 12th March  at 7 pm St Nicholas Chapel.

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.'") And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
